Abstract

Insufficient milk flow is a common problem for breastfeeding mothers. Mothers often complain of sore nipples and frequent crying in their babies, leading them to avoid breastfeeding. One cause of insufficient milk flow is a decrease in milk production in the first few days after birth, which can be caused by a lack of stimulation from the hormones oxytocin and prolactin, which play a crucial role in milk production. Non-pharmacological efforts such as oxytocin massage are needed to stimulate milk flow. Oxytocin massage is a massage along the spine (vertebrae) to the fifth to sixth costae bones which can stimulate the hormones oxytocin and prolactin after giving birth. The research design used a pre-experimental study with a single-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study was 12 people. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The research instrument used was observation and used normality tests and Wilcoxon tests with a value of 0.000 (p <0.05). The results of this study were obtained from 12 respondents. Before oxytocin massage, the majority of respondents experienced smooth breast milk production (2 respondents (16.7%), while 10 respondents (83.3%) experienced less smooth breast milk production. After oxytocin massage intervention, 20 respondents experienced smooth breast milk production (100%). The Wilcoxon statistical test showed that the P value = 0.000 < a (0.05). This means that there is an effective effect of Oxytocin Massage on Breast Milk Smoothness in Primiparous Mothers at the Regional General Hospital of the Meranti Islands Regency.
