THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LIFESTYLE AND THE INCIDENCE OF HYPERTENSION IN THE COMMUNITY IN ROKAN HULU REGENCY

Hypertension occurs when a person's blood pressure exceeds the normal limit, which can lead to health problems and even death. When measuring blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg, 140 represents the blood pressure when the heart pumps blood (systolic), while 90 represents the blood pressure when the heart is at rest and blood is returning to the heart (diastolic). The objective of this study was to identify variables associated with the relationship between lifestyle and hypertension incidence in the Rokan IV Koto I Community Health Center working area in 2025. This study used a quantitative, observational analytical cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in the Rokan IV Koto Community Health Center working area with 100 respondents selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires and analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. The results showed a significant association between hypertension incidence and physical activity (p-value = 0.012), diet (p-value = 0.40), and smoking (p-value = 0.023). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between physical activity, diet, and smoking with hypertension incidence in hypertensive patients in the Rokan IV Koto I Community Health Center working area, Rokan IV Koto District, Rokan Hulu Regency. It is recommended that the community health center develop an early detection program for hypertension by conducting routine blood pressure screening.
