RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH LITERACY LEVEL AND PRO-ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOR IN COLLEGE STUDENTS

Abstract

Environmental health literacy (EHL) has emerged as a field of study that integrates concepts from several disciplines, such as risk communication, health literacy, environmental health science, communication studies, and safety culture. Knowledge can be defined as the foundation that shapes attitudes, which in turn influence a person’s actions or behavior. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of environmental health literacy and pro-environmental behavior. This study employs a quantitative approach with an analytical cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling with a total of 83 respondents, all students in the Public Health Study Program at the Payung Negeri Pekanbaru Health Institute. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire. The relationship between variables was analyzed using the SpearmanRank test. The results indicate a significant relationship between the level of environmental health literacy and pro-environmental behavior, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.611 (0.60–0.799 = strong).
